Week of December 3rd

Alright, now that we are back on track. I hope everyone has recuperated from their Thanksgiving break!! We are on the stretch for our winter break in about 3 weeks!! Woohoo!!

I have made the switch from the behavior charts to Class Dojo. I know some of you like it better because it's instant. You should have received your login so that you can access it and see how your child's day went. A lot of the behavior logs were not getting signed, others were getting lost, so I figured immediate access is better. If you did not receive your log in yet, please let me know.

On December 3, you can access Parent Portal and see what the mid-term (interim) grade is. Hopefully, you have had a chance to keep up with these throughout the quarter. If you're not sure how to access it, let me know and I can get you in with our technology coach.

December 20th is now a full day and the 21st will be a half day. If there's a change in transportation, please let me know. December 20th is, also, the day of our Winter Celebration sponsored by the PTO.

We return to school on January 7th.

Service Learning at Upper Campus

LCEU's Student Lighthouse Team has planned our first service learning project of the school year to be a non-perishable food drive. Our collected food will go to families in need in Lake Carolina and to Spring Valley High School's Winter Wishes, which supports Harvest Hope Food Bank.

The class with the most food items collected at the end of the drive will win a pizza party!

Our school is also helping with world hunger by participating with freerice.com, a site owned and supported by the United Nations World Food Programme. Freerice offers educational review with practice of things like math facts and vocabulary review. Each correct answer earns 10 grains of rice to be donated to people in need across the globe. Ten correct answers equals a bowl of free food!

Please support our Service Learning Project by sending in non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, canned soups, canned vegetables, ramen noodles, boxed pasta, and cereal until Monday, December 10 and visiting freerice.com.

Thank you!

Week of November 12

Celebration time again!!! This week, we are celebrating our brave Veterans with our Veteran's Day celebration! If you toured our hallway, you will see the decorations each 3rd grade class made. Our class made an American wind sock and wrote thank you letters to the men and women who have made or are making sacrifices for our country.

Next week, we will have our 2nd field study with Diamond Del. He will be here on Tuesday, November 13th. Our time will be from 12:35-1:35 and there will be information in their green folders today. The fee for this field study is $10 and you can pay it online through Parent Portal. Students will also be allowed to purchase items from the gem store.

Last quick note, we have some little people to celebrate this week. Congratulations to Robert, Anthony, Lance,  Maya, Nate, and me, Mrs. Rojas! I received my National Board re-certification! It's a process I started last year with my previous class. It took them about 7 months for them to review my writing, work samples, and video before I found out whether or not I had passed. I received my official results last week!!

Have a great weekend and "Sharpen the Saw!!"

Week of November 5th

Well, this has been a very busy week!! We began the week with our Boosterthon Fundraiser and finished Friday with our Boosterthon Fun Run.  Thank you to everyone for your support and to those who came out during the Fun Run (pictures below). We also had some school bell ringers this week. Some finished their own personal goal, others achieved a new level on Xtra math!!! Kudos to everyone because as you know we have been working extra hard this quarter with everything from trying to get back into the groove of school to working extra hard in the area of effort. I always tell them "Do not say can't if you haven't even tried!" As you know, report cards also went out Friday. Please be sure to keep the report card. The only thing you need to sign and return is the report card jacket. Last but not least, thank you for your support during this first quarter. "It takes a village!!"

Be ready for more fun for next week. Tuesday, we will be our for election day. Wednesday is our district writing assessment. Friday is our Veteran's Day celebration. Last but not least, remember, to check Google Classroom. This is where I post notes from class or any resources that may be helpful with our units of study. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and the extra hour of sleep.

NEW RESOURCE:
You can go here and click on auto-scored quizzes. Hopefully, this will give them more practice with their multiplication facts.

Enjoy our pictures!!
