Week of October 1st

This past week has been great! We are still getting used to our daily behavior logs that should be signed nightly. The students also have a reading log in a green folder they should be filling out daily.

On another note, we began this Friday with the students going to Gator Groups. Each student was given the opportunity to participate in a group of their choosing and interest. We will have Gator Groups every half day. Participating in Gator Groups gives students the opportunity to get out of the class and make new friends. The groups are mixed with all 3 grade levels, so they have a chance to build community with students they may not have met during a regular school day. Awesome, right!!!

Also, please be sure to always return signed graded papers on Monday. If you have not had the chance to return the field trip form that was sent home on Monday, please send it back this Monday. The fee for this field trip can be paid through your Parent Portal account.

Lastly, I want to congratulate Rohita and Zyria for completing addition on their Xtra math!!! They have now moved on to subtraction! We, as a class, are so proud of them and they were able to celebrate with ringing the celebration bell. Great job and everyone is working hard to join them. For those of you who may not know, Xtra math is a program that gives students the chance to master their basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The program is based on fluency through speed and accuracy. Yes, the students are able to access this program from home and continue practicing as long as they are logged into their Richland 2 email through Google mail.

Week of September 23rd

What a working week we have had!! Whew!! We have been getting back into the routine of normalcy since our Hurricane Florence absences. We have been working extremely hard this week trying to make up for the days we lost and your babies forged through.

I'm sure by now you have heard we have three definite days to make up. Our make-up days are October 18th, October 19th, and December 21st. Please make sure you are aware of these days and have marked them in your calendar.

Friday folders were sent home with graded papers. Please sign them and send them back on Monday. We did our social studies quiz but did not get to our math vocabulary quiz. They will take this on Monday. Also, the Gamecock reading logs that were sent home by our media center are due on Monday. If there are any other forms still in the folder that need to be signed, please send them as well.

I hope you have had a great weekend so far and continue to "sharpen the saw". I look forward to seeing everyone bright and early on Monday.

Shoe Tower Competition

Shoe Tower Competition - We were working on Habit 2. They had 2 chances to build the tallest tower. The 1st Time was without any planning. The 2nd Time was with planning. This taught them it’s better to go in with a plan than without. It also worked on synergizing. They saw that you don’t profit when everyone wants to be a leader and no one wants to follow. I explained to them a leader knows how to do both. It was fun and interesting to watch and listen to their conversations!

Getting to Know Each Other

Real Life Arrays

Avery has found an array on the Growth Mindset chart.

Nate found an array in our “attention” chart.

Zyria sees arrays with our headphone pockets.

Matthew found an array with our “Synergy” partner magnets.

Anthony even found an array with our Superhero chart.

Our “Parking Lot” had an array found by Jarama.

Meet our new student, Dovie, who found an array with her desk caddy.

Rohita found an array with our reward erasers.

Gabriel used our birthday months to find an array.

The superheroes chart did it again. Maya found an array here.

Rojas Report September 8th

We have had another awesome week! We are breaking the summer slump and trying to get back into the practice of following procedures and being in class all day. Our class mission statement and personal goals have been set. I can't wait until we ring our first celebration bell. Hopefully, what they have learned at school with the 7 Habits is being reflected in their home life.

This week, we also had a chance to practice with our Chromebooks. The students were added to Google Classroom and practiced on Xtra Math (https://xtramath.org/) and Freckle (https://student.freckle.com/#/login). I told them the 🔑 to getting into these apps at home would mean they had to be signed into Google and their district email.

Please check the side of the blog for upcoming curriculum and assignments.

Rojas Report September 1st

Happy Extended Weekend!!

Parents, I hope your students had a great week. We have been working long and hard on procedures and expectations through our 7 Habits (though there are actually 8). I hope your student is able to share some of the exciting things and vocabulary they learned through our activities. They should be able to incorporate this into their home lives. 

We ended this with "College Day' and a dance party. Of course, we had some friendly rivalry going on and the kids loved it (especially if they are a Clemson fan- Go Cocks)!!  I'm hoping the video won't be too big to add to our blog.  Next week will be our first week with the curriculum. This will begin our incorporation of the students leading while learning.

I also want to send a huge thank you to Mrs. Jackson (Justin) for donating snacks to the class. It has been very helpful when students have forgotten snacks. We greatly appreciate it! 

Please join me for Orientation on Wednesday, September 5th for 3rd grade orientation which will showcase curriculum, expectations, and field trips. There are two sessions which start at 5:30 or 6:30 to accommodate your evening schedules. I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, and please enjoy the long Labor Day Weekend ahead of us. I look forward to seeing everyone bright and early Tuesday morning. Let the kids know I did say Tuesday this time. They had to keep correcting me in class because I kept saying Monday.  Anyway, sharpen the saw, enjoy your weekend,  and I will see you Wednesday evening!!

Thanks,
Mrs. Rojas
