Week of March 18

Good afternoon parents,

I hope everyone had an awesome break! We are coming back ready to work on full blast. This week we are working on a new story, "Penguin Chick".  Also, the students brought home permission slips on Friday. Please be sure to get them signed and returned as soon as possible. They also have a study buddy in their notebooks for the social studies test.

Focus: main idea and details, theme, sequence, idioms, compare and contrast, homophones

Penguin Chicks Test on Tuesday, March 26th
Vocabulary: fierce, echoes, shuffles, huddle, down, down, junior

Use these skills and key words for these skills during writing.
We will continue practicing on writing this week as well as text structures. There are 6 of text structures and they have a chart glued into their reading notebooks of them.
Text Structures Quick check on Thursday, March 21st along with the reading test.

Our guest speaker, Ms. Angel Brown (Literacy Coach) teaching about writing a thesis in persuasive writing.

Quiz on lessons 1-4 on Wednesday, March 20th

Math 4 Today
Please also pay attention to the Math 4 Today sheets in your child's math notebooks. We have been working on them since the beginning of the year. This quarter they are being counted as classwork grades, next quarter they will be counted as quiz grades. 


We are doing a review of time but leaning more towards elapsed time. Please continue to work on standard form, word form, expanded form, comparing numbers. 


In the following pictures, the students are working in pairs on perimeter and area. I am also working on  fractions with the shapes.



 Science

We are going to begin the unit on fast and slow land changes through weathering, erosion, and deposition. Some of the key words that will be included are: deposition, erosion, earthquake, glacier, landforms, landslide, plates, sand dunes, floods, droughts, volcano, and weathering.



Social Studies

Reading "I Survived The American Revolution" in class. I will finish this by Friday. We have ventured off a little from taking notes because the kids have gotten so interested in the book.

Part II
